Pop singer/rocker-wannabe Pink compares British royalty to "rednecks" from the South due to their penchant for fox hunting.
Pink is a lefty (vocal in her anti-Bush sentiments during his 2nd term), and she follows the typical celebrity leftist line of being against hunting/fur use. That's fine that she doesn't believe in these things, but to call the British royal family "rednecks" and say that the Brits should replace the fur hats on the palace guards with designs from Stella McCartney shows a blatant ignorance about how the world outside of the celebrity bubble actually works.
Honestly, I'm confused as to how the hunting habits of the British royal family have to do with an American pop singer who has entered the downside of her career. I also wonder why she thinks that they will listen to her...does she think that her opinion will carry that much weight with the royal family?
This is the second time this year that a high-profile lefty has dissed the Brits. Remember, it was back in March that the highest-profile lefty of them all, Barack Obama, decided that 25 DVDs that won't even play on European DVD players was a perfect gift for Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Brits did not agree.

Fabio Slams George Clooney, Podium Laughs Heartily
More from the world of entertainment...
Recently, George Clooney and Fabio had a bit of an incident at a restaurant. Apparently, Clooney was having dinner at the restaurant and Fabio was attending a charity dinner at the same restaurant. Photographers were randomly popping by to take pictures of Fabio and his guests at the dinner.
Meanwhile, Clooney got all riled up thinking that the photographers were taking pictures of him (wow, talk about self-absorbed). Clooney began shouting insults at Fabio's guests, go so far as to call one of the women a "fat cow", which prompted Fabio to confront Clooney. Fabio showed Clooney that the photos taken were not of him, but of Fabio and his guests. Clooney settled down for a moment, before starting with the insults again. Fabio then got up to confront Clooney again, and Clooney fled immediately.
Did I mention that Clooney was described as looking "drunk and belligerent"?
Fabio recounted the evening for OK! magazine, and said this about Clooney and his actions...
“You have to be a low-class, scumbag to start calling a woman a name. If you’re a man, you should never. You should be a gentleman. These women were with me and as a man I defend them. He was lucky he ran out of the restaurant. He’s not even half a man.”
WOW! Talk about laying the smackdown on George! I often have a laugh at Fabio's expense...but I think he would have honestly knocked Clooney's salt-and-peppered head clean off his shoulders.
The Podium has always conceded that George Clooney is a very good actor. However, the Podium has also always had questioned Clooney's personal character. Looks like we had good reason to do so.

Who Cared About Live Earth?
Apparently, not many people, according to Rasmussen Reports.
22% of those polled actually followed the stories and news about Live Earth either somewhat or very closely. Meanwhile 75% did not pay any attention to it. 3 out of 4 Americans couldn't have cared less about this thing. 41% of those polled also said that events like Live Earth are not helpful to their own cause.
Much of the skepticism came from the fact that most Americans don't think celebrities care about global warming. In fact, in the same poll, 52% said that performers take part in these types of events because it is good for their image, while only 24% said that they do it because they actually care. I'm inclined to agree with that 52%...for 99% of celebrities, it's all an image thing. (In fact, read one of my "Weekly Podiums" where I mention hypocritical celebs and their actual environmental impact...start at the paragraph that beings with "Leonardo DiCaprio")
Matt Bellamy of the band Muse referred to Live Earth as "private jets for climate change".
In fact, in the article explaining the results of the Live Earth poll, I stumbled across this interesting RR poll, which stated that only 24% of Americans consider Al Gore an expert on global warming...and 47% think he is not an expert at all.
Now that, my friends, is an inconvenient truth.

A Great Quote

The topic of this forum thread is about how Madonna invests in companies that people like Al Gore want punished for polluting and not being "green" enough (She holds $4.2 million worth corporate stock from 7 of the top 100 "most toxic" companies). The irony is that Madonna is part of Gore's "Live Earth" event tomorrow.
The 8th comment (by a poster named "Thuban") reads as follows (bold emphasis is mine)...
"What’s interesting to me about that article isn’t Madonna. It’s the attitude of the guy who wrote it. I’ve seen that attitude before…
Several years ago a friends kids (I was something of a foster uncle to them) asked me how much I made. So, I told them. I don’t remember how much it was, but it wasn’t a lot. Just for the story lets say it was $400 a week. Well, those kids were shocked. Imagine how many toys I could buy with that, imagine how much candy. If I was getting $400 a week it wouldn’t be any problem for me to buy them all kinds of stuff.
I was talking to a friend the other day about some serious problems he’s having with his wife. No matter what he said she would still waste money left and right. It doesn’t matter if the power’s going to be cut off she will go to Wal-Mart and spend $30.00 on a couch pillow and a couple stuffed animals for their two little girls. Then she will still run to the convenience store (could have bought cheaper at Wal Mart) and spend $20 on cokes and candy for her and the girls. Or, it might be a couple movies at the rental store, after paying the late fees because she didn’t return the previous movies for a week that costs them $20.00 or so. Point is she spends money left and right on crap she doesn’t need even when the money is critically needed to pay things like the mortgage.
(What does this have to do with this thread? Hold on, I’m getting there.)
Both are examples of a childish attitude towards money. Children just assume that the place they live, their cars, their food, their medical care, their electricity, and their clothes are free. They never consider that all the necessities in life take money to buy.
(And, how does that apply to this thread?)
The idiot who wrote that article has exactly the same attitude towards the economy. Aluminum won’t smelt itself. Someone’s got to do it and that process probably does pollute some. But, if people want things made from aluminum then it’s got to be done. Most liberals have this same childish attitude towards the economy. They think all the stuff we use every day somehow magically appears on the store shelves and that companies just pollute because they like the smell.
Liberals have the minds of children, stupid, narcissistic, spoiled, children."
There is more truth to that quote than some people would like to admit. Nonetheless, that last line is incredibly amusing, in my opinion :)

King of Pop Moving to the Old Dominion?
Apparently so.
While this isn't really big news, especially in the political world, it is mildly amusing as a thought. All the stars want to come to Virginia. First Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner were supposed to move to Charlottesville (in an attempt to get Affleck to eventually run for Congress, that was the rumor).
Now Michael Jackson is coming to VA? The two schools of thought about "why" he's moving out here. One is because 2 of Jackson's main "people" both live in Virginia (if I understand this right). The other school of thought is because 2 of the most notable hip-hop/R&B producers in history (Timbaland and Teddy Riley) have studios in this state, and Jackson may work with one of them in an upcoming album.
Should at least provide some amusing fodder for those of us in the Old Dominion.

Angelina Jolie Supports Freedom of the Press, Kinda Sorta...
Brad Pitt's sexpot squeeze really knows how to contradict herself.
In the movie "A Mighty Heart", Jolie plays Mariane Pearl, the widow of Daniel Pearl. If you remember, Pearl was the reporter from the Wall Street Journal who was kidnapped and decapitated by pro-Taliban extremists in Pakistan.
The premiere of the film was last night, and it was meant to support the organization "Reporters Without Borders".
However, last night, Jolie placed a huge fence around her borders, and journalists were told to sign a contract before speaking with Angelina. In the contract, it stated that...
- The interview could only be for the purpose of promoting the film.
- No part of the interview could be used in conjunction with any other stories about Angelina.
- No questions about Jolie's personal life, if these questions are asked, Jolie can terminate the interview immediately.
- If any violations occurred, the tape of the interview would not be released to the interviewer.
- Also, if any violations occurred, it would "cause Jolie irreparable harm" and would open up the possibility of lawsuits from Jolie against the interviewer.
Jolie initially told Paramount Pictures to ban all Fox News affiliates from covering the premiere. Paramount declined to oblige. What's interesting is that Fox News Channel reviewed the movie when it premiered at Cannes, and showered the movie (and Jolie's performance) with praise and positive remarks.
Reporters from USA Today, Associated Press, and other news organizations declined to sign the agreement. As one reporter asked, "Who does she think she is?"
Of course, given that she orchestrates the photos of her and her kids in People magazine...and has supported such dictators like former Namibian President Sam Nujoma, who heavily censors the press in his nation (calling them "the enemy", among other things), it's not surprising that Jolie also wants to censor the press around her for her own image.
What a surprise, another Hollywood elitist who crows about conservatives "taking away our freedoms"...contradicting themselves left and right.

More Hasselbeck/O'Donnell Bantering...
So Rosie O'Donnell doesn't think she'll ever speak to Elisabeth Hasselbeck again. I'm still waiting to find out how Rosie can act like a victim, when she was a perpetual aggressor on the show.
Hasselbeck was the lone conservative on the show...as Behar/O'Donnell represented a hard-left viewpoint, and Barbara Walters pretty much let those 2 run the show as she sits and simply brings up topics. However, Rosie got hers for once as Hasselbeck dished out some truth, and Rosie couldn't handle it.
At least Hasselbeck has tried to mend broken fences. I'd say she's done a good job of simply being the "bigger person", and not attempting to "pile on" the situation. Rosie has also stated that she "loves all 3 of the girls" on The View...but wait, she doesn't think she'll ever speak to Hasselbeck...doesn't that mean, err, I'm confused.
Then again, Rosie leaving The View and future VP of Venezuela Cindy Sheehan leaving her soapbox in the same week isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Elizabeth Hasselbeck > Rosie O'Donnell
Just watched the clip from today's episode of "The View", and for once it was not a clip of Rosie saying something ignorant...this time it was Elizabeth Hasselbeck saying something smart, and Rosie was unable to find any kind of rhetoric to save herself...and got stuck in some sort of mental la-la land with nothing to say.
Hasselbeck took Rosie to task over Rosie's twisting of Hasselbeck's words about the Iraq War, and who the enemy really is. While Hasselbeck puts together a string of good points, what is Rosie's best response? Simply put, she gets whiny and attempts to call out Hasselbeck for "not being a good friend."
The backbreaker line from Hasselbeck was when she said, "Asking a rhetorical question that you never answer yourself: That is cowardly."

Hey Paris Hilton, Just Go To Jail Already
You're on your third conviction. One was a DUI lowered to reckless driving. Two more for driving without a license. Your excuses so far have been inconsistent..."I didn't know", "my assistants didn't tell me", and lately "I don't read".
Well, I can believe the last excuse.
However, you can hear. You hear so well that you even said "fine, take my license, I'm still going to drive". This is the total lack of responsibility we've come to expect from you, among other irresponsible and whiny celebrities.
You're only going to jail for less than half of the "cruel and unusual" punishment of 45 days. Do the right thing, Paris, and serve your 3 whole weeks of jail time. Governor Schwarzenegger will not pardon you, he's pretty much implied that. C'mon now, he's got to choose between you and your mommy and daddy...or the rest of the state of California (and the country, for that matter). I think you lose in that decision.
Plus, you're not that attractive...I'd take America Ferrera over your vapid, skeletal frame any day of the week.
