Kilo has a good post up about the support for the proposed Wise County Power Plant. This would be a "clean-burning coal" power plant. Although I do not live near the coalfields of Virginia, I do support this power plant. It will provide jobs, energy, and boost the economy of an area that really needs a project like this to revitalize the county.
Wise County, if you're unfamiliar with it, is located in southwest Virginia, on the border with Kentucky. It is nestled in the mountains and deep in the heart of the Virginia's coal-mining region.
I understand that many people are against using coal for pollution reasons. However, we have technology to make coal usage much more enviro-friendly. Why not give it a chance? It will provide an economic and technological benefit to the coalfields, and a source of energy for the state of Virginia.

Right on, man.
Right on, Man!
We agree on this subject Phil. What I really like about it is that they can clean up all the coal or slag, I think they call it that is just laying around and leaching into the waterways....
I've been to Wise... they can use the economic development.... but it is a beautiful part of the state.
This plant will not capture an ounce of carbon dioxide, and the best that Virginia environmentalists (like myself) have gotten from Dominion Power is a few vague suggestions that they may install such technology in the future. I don't believe it, and that's one big reason that I oppose the plant. It will contribute in a big way to global warming.
More than that, coal is a finite resource, and I think it's wrong to think in such short-term benefits as we take this resource for granted. I have nothing against Wise County, and BTW, I'm not trying to be mean to you either. But I think you support a policy where short-term regional concerns are held above the future of this planet, not just its environment but its economy too.
Just leaving my two cents... you'll probably never hear from me again :)
